Responsibility of Leadership

Written by Tim Cole

While watching a movie recently I was impressed by a short scene that offered some very good perspective on the qualifications for leadership. A senior officer gave a revealing assessment of someone under his command that was bright, talented, smart, courageous, and probably better than anyone else on the team.  The subordinate was anxious to step into the driver’s seat and to take the lead role, feeling they could do a better job of leading and offer a better chance at a successful mission.

The senior officer offered this important advice:  “Leadership isn’t ...

Positioning for the Future

Written by Tim Cole

In a world where the only obvious constant is the inevitability of change, thank God for things that remain consistently true.  Principles never change even when everything around us does.  Here are three principles for positioning yourself for your future:

General things come to those who Want

Having a desire for something is the first step toward having it.  People without a defined sense of desire for something usually wander around in life without accomplishing anything, simply accepting ...

Religion, Politics, and the Choice of a Nation

Written by Tim Cole

Americans live in the greatest country in the world.  As a believer in Christ - a Christian, and as one who has had the privilege of modest travels abroad, I wholeheartedly believe in the truth of that statement. Not because this nation is Christian; it is not.  While many of our founders were Christian, ours is a secular nation founded on freedom from oppressive government, specifically from the financial fleecing of its people in the form of irresponsible taxation, and from an elitist ruling class deciding for everyone which religious beliefs are legal and reasonable.  In my opinion, our current government is on the verge of both.   Some would argue that those of us who hold strong spiritual beliefs should not bring those beliefs into the public arena. They would argue that the separation of church and state provides a clear divide ...

When someone mentions the word forgiveness, how does that make you feel? Do you feel your heart sink?  Does dread fill your consciousness as the scent of a relationship gone sour floods your mind?  Or, are you suddenly conscious of relationships that have been healed because of the bravery of one person?  One thing is certain.  If you are human, someone has probably hurt you at some point in your life.  For some of us memories of abuse and pain are a daily encounter that will simply not leave.  At some point we will realize that time does not, in fact, heal ...

What is Sozo

Written by Jeffrey & Tina Weneck, Sozo Team Leaders

SOZO is the Greek word translated “saved, healed and delivered.” Sozo is a unique and gentle inner healing and deliverance ministry. At its heart Sozo has a very specific purpose of bringing a personal encounter with Father God. It is in this encounter that the roots of any hindrances to your personal connection with God get revealed. Once the hindrances get revealed then Father, Son and Holy Spirit are able to heal that connection that we all so desperately desire and need. Once that connection is healed ...

A New Way to Think About Love

Written by Dawn Cole

Relationship is a two way street.  It is the conversation and interaction between two people. The closer we grow together, the different the dynamics of the relationship become. When I love someone it naturally affects the way I treat them, think about them, respond to them and talk about them.  Love really changes everything. It has the power to give me the ability to see the other person  though rose colored glasses.  You know those glasses that make the other person look, beautiful, skinny and flawless regardless of the facts.  My lenses becomes ...

Hope that Holds Me

Written by Dawn Cole

Have you noticed how desperate the world is for a little hope? It is as if someone pulled the string on the sweater that is our world and the whole thing is unraveling and no one seems to know what to do or how to respond. The scope of what is happening is so overwhelming that it is easy to throw up our hands and repeat the mantra we hear so often, “the world is going to hell in a hand basket”. That must be one big hand basket. And who came up with that saying anyway? The next question is, “why do we believe that”? That certainly isn’t how God feels about things. He is as full of hope, passion, optimism and expectation as He as has been or ever will be. I believe God loves the challenge of the impossible. But lets be honest, the only ones ...

Tuning Your Spiritual Horn

Written by Tim Cole

As one who has played multiple instruments and sang vocally over many years, I have had the privilege of participating in many levels of bands, orchestras and choirs. Those experiences have taught me a great deal about life, about interacting with others, and about how to have a voice even when you are just one among many.

Preparation and skill go hand in hand, and both play a significant role in how much ...

Got a Question for You

Written by Dawn Cole

Have you ever asked God questions?  I believe He actually loves answering questions.  Conversations are constructed out of questions and answers.  Have you ever had lunch with someone and felt like the conversation was work?  You know, you ask a question and get a “yes” or “no” answer.  Sometimes, we would prefer God to answer us in a simple “yes” or “no” but instead He often answers our questions with a question.  Why would He do that to us?  Because you are the object of His greatest affection and He wants to spend more time with you than would be involved if He just said, “yes” or “no” and He is not interested in just giving us orders or directing us as one of His loyal subjects ...

Your Resting Place

Written by Tim Cole

Rest is a critical human need.  God designed our physical and emotional beings to enable us to accomplish great things, but they weren’t designed to work 24/7. They were designed to “work” like batteries that have a finite amount of energy and resource. After discharging that energy, batteries need to be recharged and replenished before the next challenge or task.

Our secular and church cultures often work against us getting enough rest ...
